Forces invading West Bank village of Bil'in
Akram, who is now in Bil'in, said that the Israeli Forces have split up into three groups and are searching homes, including the home of Mohammad Khatib where his wife and children are. Akram said that soldiers are currently near the mosque. Scheduled for tomorrow in Bil'in is the Second Annual Bil'in International Conference, which will highlight non-violent resistance in Palestine, Israel's Apartheid Wall and land theft, and will include speakers from Palestine, Israel, and international communities and workshops on boycott, divestment, media, and direct action.

The ABCs of Home Demolitions in "Israel"
Any day now, the Civil Administration, Israel's military government over the Occupied Territories, could order the home demolished for the fifth time. The Shawamreh home in the village of Anata, in the West Bank but just meters over the Jerusalem municipal boundary, has become the symbol of the Palestinian struggle against Israel's policy of demolishing Palestinian homes -- and of resistance to the Occupation in general. Salim and Arabiya both come from families made refugees in 1948.

Israel Defense Forces Central Command head Yair Naveh has appointed an IDF officer to investigate whether Shuhada Street in Hebron has been intentionally closed to non-Jewish pedestrians for the past six years. Following a petition by the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, the army claimed last December that the closure had been "unintentional."

Court acquits Border Policeman who killed a Palestinian in 2005
The policeman, Shmuel Yehezkel, allegedly shot an Issawiya resident Samir Ribhi Dari, 36, in November 2005. At the time, the police claimed that Dari was shot after he attempted to run over an officer who had detained his nephew. "The claim that Dari attempted to run over an officer is unfounded because, if he had intended to run over officers, he would have also run over his nephew," the senior official said. ( It takes year and a half to conclude? )

PALESTINIAN CHILDREN DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO A FAIR TRIAL UNDER THE ISRAELI MILITARY COURT SYSTEM
The Military Court system and procedure, on the surface, can be compared to that of a jurisdiction of criminal prosecution however the specific rules and Military Orders which operate within the Court are conducive to Israel 's occupation of the Palestinian territories and cancel out any opportunity or right a Palestinian may have to a fair trial.

The Holocaust as political asset
Turning the Holocaust into a political asset serves Israel primarily in its fight against the Palestinians. When the Holocaust is on one side of the scale, along with the guilty (and rightly so) conscience of the West, the dispossession of the Palestinian people from their homeland in 1948 is minimized and blurred. The phrase "security for the Jews" has been consecrated as an exclusive synonym for "the lessons of the Holocaust."

Requiem in Ramallah
The name Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart has not been heard so frequently in the West Bank as in the past two weeks, during the Palestinian Mozart Festival. Fifty works by this great composer, some of them very rare, were performed in every musical art form: from solo songs to operas, and from chamber ensembles to orchestras. More than half the musicians were Palestinians; the others came from around the world.

Israel's Strategic Threat
But what, one might ask, are Bishara's new offenses? It is, after all, highly unlikely that he is a spy on the payroll of a foreign entity. And while one may not like his uncompromising opposition to Israeli and American regional policies and his admiration for Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah's militancy and strategic intelligence, expressing such views does not in and of itself jeopardize Israel's existence. Bishara, it seems, is a threat not because of any particular action or statement but because he has become a symbol of a new kind of opposition within Israel.

Hope for Arab initiative
The idea of a political process among Israel and the Arab states, led by a newly vigorous Saudi Arabia and supported by the US, has recently been revived. This alignment is based on the common threat that Iranian expansionism presented for Israel, the US, and pro-Western Sunni Arab regimes. It is increasingly understood that Iran is trying to establish regional hegemony, based on military capacity, economic fortune and regime stability, as well as global power status, regional influence and Muslim world leadership.

Gaza is not Bagdad - Yet
In this context, it should be understood that the US is among those unhappy about the spirit of compromise and the victory of common sense that led to the establishment of the united Palestinian government, a step wholly in Palestinian interests and in the interest of a just peace. There is, therefore, reason for serious concern over the persistent reports of plans by the Bush government to train and arm special units of a "Presidential Guard."

Winograd panel enlisting army, jurists in battle against High Court
The committee argues that the release of the testimonies before the publication of an interim report would run the risk of creating a false public impression as to the final conclusions of their report. In addition, the committee is concerned that the immediate release of testimonies by IDF officers might cause severe damage to some 30 officers in active service who appeared before the panel.
