Israel announces new restrictions on foreigners in West Bank
In addition to the visa generally received at the border, all of which are controlled by the Israelis, foreigners will need to go to offices inside Israeli boundaries to apply to a visa to enter the West Bank. This is already the case with the Gaza Strip, where very few foreigners are allowed by the Israeli checkpoint guards to enter the Strip.

Did Sharon Order the Assassination of Arafat?
Dan claimed Sharon got approval from George Bush by phone early in 2004 to proceed with his plan after he told the US president he was no longer committed to "not" liquidating the Palestinian leader who then was under siege and practically incarcerated in what remained of his Ramallah compound, most of which had already been destroyed by the Israelis in a lawless act of retribution against him.

Isolation produces generation of bitter children in Gaza
For the children of Gaza, prisoners of the narrow coastal strip surrounded by the Israeli Army, the outside world is nothing but fury, violence and tragedy - a menacing universe that they fear. Most of Gaza's minors - 840,000 out of a population of 1.4 million - have never left their narrow piece of land stretched out on the Mediterranean coast, access to which is strictly controlled by Israel. They grow up in frustration, anguish, anger and poverty.

Special Report: “2006, a year of elections, invasions, chaos and “Shalit”
One of the main events in 2006 was the “rise and fall”, the rise of Hamas to power and the fall of Fateh that dominated the power in Palestine since 1996. Yet, after Hamas was elected and brought to power, the international community, headed by Israel and the United States imposed strict economic and political siege on the Palestinians and their elected leadership.

Painting a rosier future
The foreign minister proposes directing efforts toward energetic diplomatic activity with the Palestinians, in an orderly and sustained fashion, and not only as an occasional gesture. She thinks that progress must be made constantly, without being conditioned on progress in the cease-fire. Livni also says that Palestinian good behavior should not be a precondition for goodwill gestures, but only for the agreement that will be signed in the end.

The year of the zigzag
Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres used to say that in the matter of peace agreements, intelligence has always fallen down on the job. Can we trust the Mossad's assessment that Iran will have nuclear weapons three years from now? And how will we know that Israel is ready to take preemptive action? When the chief of staff gives orders to his bank to sell his shares?

Markers on the route to Damascus
In 1974, the Agranat Commission published its report, which examined the principal failure and the secondary failures that led to the Yom Kippur War. Inter alia, the commission recommended that, in order to prevent future mistaken "conceptions," the pluralism of intelligence assessments in Israel should be strengthened by reinforcing the research divisions of the Mossad and the Foreign Ministry.

Message for Olmert: Ignore Bush and Start Talking to Assad
Unfortunately, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is one of the doubters, and once again, the president of the United States is part of the problem, not the solution. George W. Bush says speaking to the Syrians would only reward them for bad behavior, and they must first repent and mend their ways. And the ever-obedient Olmert goes along with that.
